Winter Always Turns to Spring: The People Who Keep Us Standing

This week, Diane spent the morning with one of our community's local faith groups — a room full of neighbors from every walk of life, laughing together, checking in on one another, and reminding each other that no one has to carry their load alone.
You don't have to share a single belief to feel what a room like that offers. When people gather in good faith — for each other, for their families, for their community — something steadies inside all of us. Faith, in the broadest and most human sense, is what keeps us on our feet when life leans hard against us. It's the quiet conviction that our effort matters, that our neighbors are with us, and that the hard season we're in is not the whole story.
Nichiren Daishonin put it simply, in words that have carried people through their darkest stretches for centuries: “Winter always turns to spring.” No winter, however long or bitter, has ever refused to give way. That isn't wishful thinking — it's a promise written into the world itself. The families who have weathered the most are often the ones who understand this best: keep showing up, keep believing, and the season changes.
That's the spirit Diane carries into her work for District 3. Raising strong readers, supporting our teachers, and building schools where every child can thrive is long, patient work — the kind that asks you to keep faith through more than one winter. And it's the reason community matters so much. We hold each other up. A parent encourages a struggling reader. A neighbor watches out for a family going through a hard time. A local group opens its doors and says: you belong here.
To the faith community that welcomed Diane this week — thank you. Thank you for the warmth, the honesty, and the reminder that District 3 is strong because its people show up for one another. That's the same conviction behind this whole campaign: when we stand together and don't give up on each other, spring always comes.
